Gloucester Confirm Davies Signing

New Gloucester Director of Rugby Nigel Davies
This morning both Gloucester Rugby Club and The Scarlets have confirmed that Nigel Davies has become the new Director of Rugby at Kingsholm. A former Welsh international, the 47 year old had been in charge at Scarlets since May 2008. In this time Davies has created an exciting running brand of rugby at the Welsh side nurturing talents such as Scott Williams, Rhys Priestland, George North and Ben Morgan. Davies has said of his time at the Scarlets:

"It has been a true honour and a privilege to be Head Coach of the Scarlets and the last four years has been one of the most proud periods of my professional career.''

"I believe I leave the Scarlets on a very firm footing in terms of results, performance and the development of players and it's great to see that there will be another group of young talented players that have come through the Scarlets system getting their first caps at Wales' game against the Barbarians this weekend.''

Davies will join up with the Gloucester side following his commitments at the Junior World Cup, and will join up with an exciting side. The likes of Freddie Burns, Johnny May, Charlie Sharples, Billy Twelvetrees and James Simpson Daniel will be in the banks with the highly impressive Ben Morgan joining Davies from the Scarlets. The squad, along with Davies running brand of rugby bode will for the coming season and any fan should be exceedingly excited.

Gloucester have today said:

"We're delighted that Nigel has agreed to become our new Director of Rugby as he was the outstanding candidate throughout the recruitment process.''

"The Scarlets have been very impressive in the way they have approached the situation from the start and in their consideration to ensure Nigel had sufficient time to make such a significant decision at this stage of his career.''

"Their professionalism has ensured that Ryan Walkinshaw has been able to reach an amicable agreement allowing Nigel's release from his existing contract to join us at Kingsholm in time for our pre-season preparations.''
